Moms’ Place lives out Neighborhood Ministries’ mission by creating a safe environment for young mothers and their children to provide friendship, community, parenting skills and discipleship.

A dedicated group of mature women support the young mothers, ages 13-21 to nurture and enhance their parental, spiritual, personal and communal development through compassionate friendships.

Young Moms Receive:

  •  Unconditional love
  •  Emotional, mental, physical, material & spiritual support
  •  Encouragement to counteract negative influences that lead to family and social dysfunction
  •  Long lasting mature friendships and wise counsel
  •  Modeling and experience of healthy interactions with their children

Program Details:

  •  Thursday nights (late September – early May) 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Neighborhood Center
  •  Weekly pre & post natal classes for 1st time moms (and dads if available); e-mail gumecinda.medrano @ nmaz.net for days & times
  •  Various Saturdays and weekdays during summer months for local swim parties and trips to Tempe Lakes Splash Playground as well as some specific life skills/parenting classes, i.e. First Aid/CPR

Volunteer Opportunities:

=> One year commitment –

  •  Mentoring a mom and her children
  •  Thursday night program leader (transportation/participation in lesson)
  •  Childcare for 2yrs + including story, craft, play

=> Other Opportunities –

  •  Provide meals for Thursday night program (feeding approximately 40 people)
  •  Teach a specific class pertaining to the needs of our moms
  •  Provide gift cards for groceries, hygiene, entertainment
  •  Donate layettes to be given as gifts to mom with a new baby including quilts and baby blankets
  •  Organize a Diaper Drive
  •  Donate new or gently used infant-5yrs old goods, i.e. books, toys, clothing, strollers, car seats, cribs, etc
  •  Throw a “Moms’ Place Baby Shower” at your church, work or group to collect these items
